How to do it
Set the cones
Three cones in a line. 10 metres to build, then 15 metres to fly.
Build
Jog, then stride. Be moving fast when you reach the second cone.
Fly
Sprint hard through the 15 metre zone. Push the ground back. Arms pump, cheek to pocket.
Coast and rest
Ease down past the last cone. Walk back slowly. Wait until you feel sharp, then go again.
Do’s
- Hit the cone already fastThe fly starts when you are moving, never from standing still.
- Stay tall and relaxedSoft face, still head, arms cheek to pocket.
- Run through the last coneKeep driving past it, then ease down.
Don’ts
- Don’t start from a stopThat makes it a short sprint, not a fly.
- Don’t reach with your feetBig floppy strides slow you down. Push the ground back under you.
- Don’t rush the restTired flies teach slow running. Wait until you feel fresh.
Safety. Flat grass or turf with room to slow down past the last cone. Full rest between flies. Stop if calves, hips or knees feel sore.
